Mini Blog - Calke Abbey

Today we packed a bag with snacks, popped on some warm layers and headed for Calke Abbey. Just 40 minutes away and using our National Trust annual passes for free entry we wanted fresh air and a mini adventure.

Many of you will have already been but this was our first time, we loved the rolling scenery and the children loved the small play areas but mostly the fallen trees for their climbing and feeding their wild imaginations.

The walk to the hall was easy from the explorer car park and there was a bbq cooking venison burgers which smelt devine and a little curiosity trail for the kids to enjoy. As good as the food looked we chose to decline and after hours of playing we got back into our van and headed to @themilkingparlourtbt just a couple of miles from Calke Abbey as we had heard great things.

Hidden away down a farmers lane this little gem won our hearts as soon as we parked up. Serving local ales and fresh stone baked pizzas out of the barn. We sat, chatted, ate stunning pizzas, washed it down with outstanding ale and took in this glorious little find. I would recommend dropping in and trying this the next time you're out this way.

Similarly the next time you're out for an adventure and want a coffee or food, search for one of these little independents, I guarantee you will enjoy it more than a Costa or Pizza Express.
