North side of the Trent

In Roman Britain, the River Trent was the dividing line between the North & South of Britain. If you have visited Nottingham for football, you will have noticed that Notts County is on the North side of the Trent, & Nottingham Forest on the South of the Trent.

When time permits, I am normally on the South side of the Trent at Nottingham Forest. Tonight it was Notts County, watching Notts County Ladies v Mansfield Town Ladies. Been a while since I have been to the home of the "Pies", so I was quite looking forward to it. I love a night match, who doesn't, always feels somewhat different.

Parking up opposite the ground, a £2 bargain, I caught a glimpse of the City Ground, from an angle that I had not seen before. Whoever you support, the City Ground stands majestically Trent side. Pure fact.

Back to tonights match, if Notts County win this game, they win the League.

There were a fair few hovering around outside, £3.50 to get in, & around 1200 in attendance. Not bad for a lower level ladies game.

Notts County is the oldest professional football club in the world  and predates the FA itself. The club became one of the 12 founder members of the Football League in 1888. They are nicknamed the "Magpies" due to the black and white colour of their home strip, which inspired Italian club Juventus to adopt the colours for their kit in 1903.

As the daylight started to fade, on came the floodlights, ready for a 7:45 kick off.

Bit of Sauce & Brown on show, as we sponsor the Training & away kit for the Mansfield Town Ladies. We like to do our bit.

Cup of Tea & one of the best Cheeseburgers I have ever had, & onto the game.

Always a battling and bruising game between these two teams, & Notts County took control of the game in the first half with 2 goals. Second half, Mansfield made quite a few changes, but a cheeky lob & Notts County are crowned National League Champions.

Couple of incidents which I won't mention, but one was brutal. Ask me if you see me.

Monday nights under the lights. Had nothing else on, was a cheap night & thoroughly enjoyed the evening.

Give the Ladies game a go one day, you may be surprised.
