Exploring Higger Tor: A Family Adventure in the Peak District
In this blog post, I'll be sharing our recent family walk in the breath taking Peak District, i'm so grateful to have this on our doorstep. New years day we checked out Padley Gorge which was a wonderful walk but today join us as we embark on an adventure filled with stunning landscapes, cherished moments, and unforgettable experiences at Higger Tor.
The Peak District, known for its rugged beauty and rolling hills, served as the backdrop for our family outing. Higger Tor, a prominent landmark in the area, awaited our exploration with its majestic presence and captivating views, I never tire of these landscapes.
Before setting off, we made sure to pack essentials like water, snacks, even a flask of soup and sturdy footwear. With the route saved to memory and excitement in our hearts, we were ready to tackle the trails and discover the wonders of Higger Tor, I chose this walk based on the extra boulders along the route for the children to explore.
We parked up on the grass verge careful not to park on soft ground, I popped our one year old in a carrier and hoisted her onto my back then we ventured along the winding paths uphill, the beauty of the Peak District unfolded before us once we reached the peak. The sounds of nature and the fresh air invigorated our spirits as we immersed ourselves in the tranquillity of the surroundings, you had to block out some of the new walker types moaning about the small climb up to the ridge.
Upon reaching Higger Tor, we were greeted by its rugged rock formations and panoramic vistas. We took our time exploring the area, soaking in the breathtaking views from the tor's summit before we picked a spot for our lunch, meanwhile the girls were busy clambering over boulders and making their own route. We kept them in sight but let them explore.
In the distance we could see runners running across the lower boggy ground, little did we anticipate just how boggy until we got closer but it made for some unforgettable moments, especially with the footwear choice of our middle girl. Indie can be sensitive when it comes to footwear, her choice of ugg boots was less than ideal but as a parent you pick your battles and find the middle ground, all that being said they were warm and surprisingly waterproof when faced with crossing the creek. However the main thing was she was happy and getting them clean once again was a problem for another day.(they came up like new with a little elbow grease, a spot of washing up liquid and a toothbrush)
It turned out there was an organised fell race all around us, from our lunch spot we had a great vantage point, we took it in turns to play commentator, knee deep in mud at times and looking worn out they passed us one by one.
One of the highlights of our walk was the quality time spent together as a family. From sharing laughs and stories to bonding over shared experiences, our adventure in the Peak District created cherished memories that will last a lifetime and ones we hope to add to over the coming months so please hit us up with your favourite walk in the peaks.
Our time in nature taught us valuable lessons about the importance of disconnecting from the hustle and bustle of daily life. By the end the girls were getting tired and as the light faded they soldiered on even when we got a sprinkle of snow. We returned home with a renewed sense of appreciation for the great outdoors and each other.
Our family walk in the Peak District around Higger Tor was a truly unforgettable experience filled with awe-inspiring moments and cherished memories. As we reflect on our adventure, we're reminded of the beauty and magic that await us when we take the time to explore nature's wonders.
