Tignes Le Lac: A Snowboarder's Paradise

Returning from an unforgettable snowboarding adventure in Tignes Le Lac, nestled in the heart of the French Alps, I find myself bursting with excitement to share the highs and lows of our journey with you all. Join me as I recount our whirlwind trip, filled with adrenaline-pumping slopes, breath-taking vistas, and moments of sheer exhilaration.

The Journey Begins

Our adventure kicked off with a smooth and convenient flight from Birmingham to Geneva via EasyJet. The anticipation was palpable as we boarded the plane, filled with banter and laughs from the group of 8. Flying over the majestic Alpine landscape, with its snow-capped peaks and winding valleys, only heightened our sense of excitement and anticipation. As we came to land the tranquil waters of Lake Geneva came into view just as the sun was setting behind the peaks.

Three Days on the Slopes

We had a slight hiccup with our transfer but in true lad fashion we just greased the wheels and got moving rather than dwell on the situation, every hour counts on a short trip, our new driver had a little snooze on the road but we'll gloss over bouncing off kerbs to nearly hurtling over the edge to our deaths. Arriving in Tignes Le Lac late on, the town seemed quiet and so was the hotel, we had missed dinner but they had prepared a lovely charcuterie board for us to share. When we woke we were greeted by pristine slopes and perfect conditions that set the stage for an unforgettable snowboarding experience. The snow started blasting down and with three full days at our disposal, we wasted no time in hitting the slopes and carving our way through fresh powder. From adrenaline-pumping descents to leisurely rides through scenic trails, each run offered its own unique thrills and challenges as we got the legs acclimatised.

Accommodation Fit for Kings

Our home base for the trip was nothing short of luxurious. Nestled just a short stroll to the lifts, our accommodations at Hotel Les Campanules provided the perfect blend of comfort and convenience. Rooms with views, top-notch amenities, and warm hospitality made our stay truly memorable. And let's not forget the exquisite dining experience that awaited us each evening, with hearty meals that fuelled our adventures on the slopes.

Unforgettable Moments

As we traversed the slopes of Tignes Le Lac on day one, the snow storm was consuming but that didn't stop us, we encountered moments of heart-stopping excitement right up until the lifts were closed early. We stopped for a bite to eat inside by the fire, a few moments of bliss to rest the quads. Once the legs were done in we all headed for a swim, sauna and freshen up back at base ready to attack the loop bar and watch the game they were showing, good atmosphere and the beer was flowing a treat.

Day 2 we were the first up for breakfast and on full stomachs the gondola lead us up, up, and away to Val D'isere where we navigated steep descents, conquered challenging terrain in fresh powder, and simply soaked up the breath-taking vast landscape, each moment was a reminder of why we fell in love with snowboarding in the first place. The weather was just perfect with one local saying it was the best day of the season. Naturally we decided to pull the pin on this day and let our hair down, You cannot go all that way and not experience La Folie Douce. As wild as it was, dancers hanging from hoops, skiers paragliding down above us, it was wild, a sight to behold, we would probably still be there now if we hadn't got the last lift back over the mountain. Luckily for us the Après continued down in Val Claret at the CocoRico bar with live music, the night ended with lost skis, bruised bodies and us all getting off the bus at different stops.

Day 3 we went up the same side as day 1 but higher and further, a day of varied conditions amongst the cloud made the mogul runs quite difficult, I think we were the only group in Tignes trying to pack it all into 3 days, we barely scratched the surface. We finished our afternoon off in the town with a dose of cook it yourself(not even a hint of food poisoning), a proper laugh with a mountain backdrop, does it get any better? We had a wander to a couple of bars before grabbing food, the skies filled with snow once again.

A Fond Farewell

As our time in Tignes Le Lac came to a close, we bid farewell to this snowboarder's paradise with a mixture of reluctance and gratitude. Reluctance to leave behind the adrenaline-pumping slopes and stunning scenery, but gratitude for the unforgettable memories and experiences that we'll cherish for a lifetime.

Looking Ahead

As we reflect on our time in Tignes Le Lac, we're already dreaming of our next snowboarding adventure. Whether it's exploring new slopes, discovering hidden gems, or simply immersing ourselves in the thrill of the mountains, one thing is certain – the French Alps will always hold a special place in our hearts.
